What is Age of Sigmar
Warhammer Age of Sigmar is a tabletop fantasy wargame created by Games Workshop, set across the endless landscapes of the Mortal Realms. Each realm is a world of magic and myth, home to powerful heroes, ancient gods, and monstrous creatures. Players command armies of finely detailed miniatures, bringing their chosen faction to life in battles filled with strategy, creativity, and imagination.
Games are fought using rulers, dice, and clear, accessible rules that reward tactical thinking. You can field anything from a handful of warriors to vast armies of hundreds of models, with each battle telling its own story of triumph and tragedy. Painting and customizing your miniatures is part of the experience, turning every army into a personal creation that reflects your vision of the Realms.
The game offers a wide variety of playstyles. Some armies focus on speed and precision, striking hard before the enemy can react. Others rely on sheer endurance, holding the line with sturdy ranks that refuse to fall. Some harness the power of magic to control the flow of battle, while others swarm the field with endless hordes or unleash towering monsters to crush their foes. No matter how you like to play, there is a faction that fits your approach to strategy and storytelling.
Getting Started
A starter set or a Spearhead boxed set is the simplest way to begin. Each box is built for fast set up and play, and gives you a self-contained force that can grow into a larger army. Add heroes, infantry, monsters, and scenery at your own pace, then round out your toolkit with paints, brushes, dice, and a measuring tape.
What is Spearhead
Spearhead games provide a fast and focused version of Age of Sigmar, ideal for learning the rules or enjoying shorter sessions. Larger battles use full armies, bringing more heroes, monsters, and tactical depth to the table. Both styles offer the same sense of excitement and discovery as you explore the lore, the models, and the evolving conflicts that define the Mortal Realms.
The Setting
The game takes place across eight planes of reality, each shaped by powerful magic. Grand Alliances define the major forces at war. Order seeks to build and protect, Chaos spreads corruption and change, Death gathers souls to serve its will, and Destruction smashes anything in its path.
Order
The forces of Order strive to rebuild and protect what remains of civilization across the Mortal Realms. United by a shared desire to bring light and structure to lands consumed by war, they forge alliances of humans, aelves, and duardin. From shining cities and mountain citadels, they push back against the chaos that threatens to engulf everything, guided by gods, heroes, and unbreakable resolve.
Cities of Sigmar mix humans, aelves, and duardin in disciplined ranks, backed by artillery and cavalry.
Daughters of Khaine prize speed and elite melee, led by Morathi-Khaine.
Fyreslayers are rune-marked duardin who hit hard and hold the line.
Idoneth Deepkin strike like a tide, fast and surgical, then fade away.
Kharadron Overlords bring skyfleets, firepower, and profit-driven courage.
Lumineth Realm-lords dominate with magic, spears, archers, and swift cavalry.
Seraphon field ancient saurian might, potent casters, and versatile units.
Stormcast Eternals are armored champions hurled to war in bolts of lightning.
Sylvaneth fight as the will of the wilds, teleporting through living woods.
Chaos
Chaos is the great corrupting power that seeps into every corner of existence. Its followers worship the dark gods of change, decay, excess, and slaughter, seeking glory through destruction and domination. The servants of Chaos twist body and soul to match their masters’ will, spreading madness, war, and corruption across the Mortal Realms in an endless tide of blood and fire.
Beasts of Chaos ambush from wild places with monsters and skirmish lines.
Blades of Khorne thrive on relentless combat and rewards for spilled blood.
Disciples of Tzeentch twist battles with spells, tricks, and shooting.
Hedonites of Slaanesh pressure opponents with speed and temptation.
Maggotkin of Nurgle grind forward with resilience and spreading plagues.
Skaven swarm with unstable weapons, sly magic, and sheer numbers.
Slaves to Darkness march as ironclad champions backed by dark blessings.
Death
In the realm of Death, all souls ultimately belong to Nagash, the Great Necromancer. His armies march under the banner of inevitability, claiming what life remains with cold precision. From restless spirits to ancient vampires and skeletal legions, the undead rise again and again, answering the call of their deathless lords to reclaim dominion over the living.
Flesh-Eater Courts see themselves as noble knights, fight as ravenous hordes.
Nighthaunt drift through terrain, return fallen models, and pin you with fear.
Ossiarch Bonereapers are relentless constructs that trade blows efficiently.
Soulblight Gravelords blend vampire heroes with ranks of undead that keep rising.
Destruction
The Grand Alliance of Destruction lives for battle and chaos in its purest form. These warlords, beasts, and marauding tribes fight not for power or conquest but for the thrill of combat itself. Driven by raw instinct and boundless hunger, their rampages leave shattered cities and smoking ruins in their wake as they tear across the Mortal Realms in search of the next great fight.
Gloomspite Gitz bring grots, squigs, and tricks in unruly numbers.
Ogor Mawtribes crash forward with brutish strength and frost-bitten monsters.
Orruk Warclans cover multiple styles, from heavy Ironjawz to cunning Kruleboyz to wild Bonesplitterz.
Sons of Behemat field a handful of towering gargants that flatten anything in reach.
